Using Art to Heal

Using art to heal is a natural process of creative expression. In doing so I allow myself to live in my truth. It has been a difficult transition but also a beautiful journey towards authenticity. I have included an artistic meditative practice in my life to learn how to heal my inner child. I aim to be honest and authentic with myself through a reflective and introspective lens.

Art, to me, is another form of “being.” I use art as therapy because I believe artistic expression is a message from our hearts. My art process is an exemplification of how I heal as I understand the complexity of self-expression and value the art at each stage. This understanding informs my creative empathy. I believe there are many perspectives and I give room to all.

The exploration of culture within the creative space is fascinating to me. As a creative and mindfulness-based organizational developer, transforming large groups requires an expensive list of interventions and skills as each person may adjust differently. In most cases, anything creatively designed will connect to the components of the brain that inspire stimuli activity (prefrontal cortex, right hemisphere, and parietal lobe), thus, making it much easier to connect with the community and group I am supporting.

The art speaks at each step of the creative process. To heal, we listen to the art and flow with our intended vision. We do not know where the art is going, but we choose to trust the journey. Art gives me room to sustain pain, discomfort, and uncertainty for an extended period of time.
