Responding to a Student Psychologist: Cultural Variability in Research

Kyle,

I am responding to this section of your post;

Needless to say, to provide accurate treatment to all peoples, psychological assessments need to expand their normed populations. Until then, we must use our clinical judgment, consulting, looking at the research, and the Code of Conduct.

I am grateful that the field of psychology has progressively placed precedence on social justice and cultural competency. However, our research approach, in my perspective, is flawed in the sense that the majority of psychology professionals are made up of white Americans.  It would be helpful to have a diverse research staff (race, gender, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, spirituality, disability) in the majority of psychology domains. We must also consider the areas we are researching and the people we are researching as well. Variability is valuable and essential.

With Intention.
